Yesterday I sent a letter to Tom Perriello about the upcoming vote on Obama-care. My message was short and to the point. “Go ahead, make my day.” Some of my opponents for the 5th district Republican nomination have tried to misinterpret my statement for their own political gain.
Over the last several months the citizens of the 5th district have called, emailed, written letters, attended town hall meetings and visited Tom Perriello’s office to urge him to vote “no” on the healthcare bill. I commend my fellow citizens’ efforts for getting involved in the political process, and I condemn Tom Perriello for ignoring them. Tom Perriello listens only to Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and political consultants that tell him he can vote for this bill and still be reelected. The purpose of my letter was to tell Tom Perriello that if he votes for this bill, and I am the Republican nominee, he will be defeated in November. I believe that the fear of losing his office and his power is the only thing Representative Perriello will respond to. I hope I’m right. I don’t believe it is arrogant to demand that Perriello votes according to the will of his constituents.
Over the last several weeks on the TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY bus tour I have seen and heard first-hand the frustration of the people I have talked with. Both the voters and I are tired of career politicians that don’t listen to us and take our vote for granted. I am a principled conservative who can unite the Tea Party activists, Republicans, Conservatives, Independents, and yes even Democrats this November. Together we will defeat Tom Perriello and send a message to Barack Obama that “we the people want our country back!”
On June 8th we must set a record for voter turnout in the Republican Primary to let our leaders know that enough is enough. My competitors’ short-sighted and opportunistic responses to my call to action clearly demonstrate that they do not have the courage to say what needs to be said, to do what needs to be done, and to face the liberal political machine in November. The time for congenial calls and pleasant emails to an elitist congressman has passed. It is now time for action.
Join me in the fight to take our country back, and return the power of the U.S. Constitution back to its proper place: in the hands of the people. To learn more about my no-nonsense approach to government reform, please go to my website at www.mckelveyforcongress.com. Also, I will be in Danville at the Tea Party Debate on Saturday March 20th, 2:00 pm, at the Danville Community College, Oliver Hall.
