As a citizen, you only spend as much money as you take in, and only borrow as much as you can pay back. When money is tight, you respond by lowering your spending. Why, then, does a government that's supposed to represent you seem always to do just the opposite with money?
Currently, our national debt is somewhere around $13.5 trillion. This burden has been placed on the American people, and is crushing us. It makes our taxes even higher, it decreases the purchasing power of our dollars when the Federal Reserve monetizes that debt, and it only seems to get worse every year.
The US House of Representatives has been granted the power of the purse by the US Constitution. It is long past time for the members of the House to restrain government spending.
Due to the failure of past representatives to balance the budget, Jim will fight to enact a balanced budget amendment to force them to do so. This madness must stop!
