Jim McKelvey is a man who has never sought or held any public office. He is now seeking office because he is alarmed by the crisis our nation is facing and the wrong choices being made by our elected officials.
Our national debt is of primary concern. This mountain of debt is crushing our national economy in the same way personal debt destroys the lives of private citizens. Jim knows that the federal government must make across the board cuts. As a start he has pledged that he will not accept a salary, health insurance, or retirement benefits while in office. He will go to Washington, lead by example, and do what must be done.
The citizens of this country have lost representation by our present elitist career politicians. Our liberties and freedom endowed to us by out forefathers have been, and continue to be eroded by the same representatives who have sworn to serve and protect these rights and serve the best interest of our country. It is for our Country, our children, and our grandchildren that Jim has chosen to serve the Fifth District of Virginia in the House of Representatives.
"I am alarmed by our current leaders continuously moving us down the wrong path. Their focus is no longer on the country’s welfare. Rather, they continue to pass bills which are not solutions and do nothing but add to our country’s ever growing debt. Many bills contain amendments for costly tax dollars which have nothing to do with the purpose of the bill but are 'Pork' for special interest groups. These earmarks have nothing to do with the best interests of the people of the United States of America."
If elected, Jim will seek the advice of the citizens of the fifth district of Virginia. Jim is well aware that the American citizens can demand legislator reformation, and again put our Nation’s interest above their own. It is time for the individuals to collectively raise their voices and be heard to put an end to the madness in Washington.
His focus on becoming a citizen legislator and not a career politician, is gathering support from voters, irrespective of political affiliation, throughout the 5th district, Virginia, and our great nation. These people share the same priorities to: enact congressional term limits; balance the budget; eliminate "pork" and earmarks; secure our nations borders and protect the nation; take common sense steps to achieve energy independence; & simplify and cut taxes to provide relief to the people and stimulate our struggling economy.
